Hailed by Germany’s Ruppiner Anzeiger as “The New, Young Pavarotti,” American tenor J. Warren Mitchell is recognized for his full-lyric voice, thrilling top register, and deeply expressive artistry. Equally at home in the soaring legato lines of Verdi and the ardent lyricism of Puccini, Mitchell has established himself as a dynamic presence on both the operatic and concert stages in the United States and Europe. OperaWire has praised his performances for “those juicy tenor sounds and a winning smile,” noting that his voice “can trumpet notes and make extraordinary throbbing sounds hearkening back to a golden age when gods like Giuseppe di Stefano still roamed.” Mitchell made his European debuts as Alfredo in La Traviata (2015) and Cavaradossi in Tosca (2016). In recognition of the Kammeroper’s 25th anniversary, he was invited to perform at Bellevue Palace in Berlin for German President Joachim Gauck and First Lady Daniela Schadt. He currently resides in Oklahoma City and remains active as a clinician and collaborator with choirs across the United States and abroad.
